May the Force be With You by Brian Christensen

May the Force be With You

This phrase was made popular by the series of Star Wars movies. Star Wars was extremely poplar when it was originally released and even now is well known and watched over twenty years later. The movie, of course, is based on fiction and purely an entertainment success of George Lucas.

I have always been amazed at parallels most movies use to the Bible and God. The writers and directors would never admit this, but basically most movies are based on “Good vs. Evil.”

Unfortunately, in an attempt to capture as much money as possible, they stray very far away from God in the production of these movies. In the movie Star Wars, there is a battle between good and evil. The good have an elite fighting force called Jedi, which are given power from a presence called “The Force.” God’s Holy Spirit also gives God’s people strength. God accomplishes all His work through His Holy Spirit.

What Can God’s Spirit Do?

God’s Spirit is vast and endless. It can encompass all things and can accomplish anything. God is so powerful and vast; His spirit extends out from Him and surrounds all things. It is hard for us to understand the immense power and depth of the Holy Spirit because it involves a dimension we cannot see. Some religions believe this vast power is another being in the God Family.

The Bible does not support this at all and it is further evidence of man’s inability to comprehend how powerful and large God really is. “God is a Spirit; and they that worship Him must worship in Spirit and truth” (John 4:24). His Spirit can help us understand His truth, help us through trials, even heal us. God’s Spirit can do all things.

Have you ever wondered why God’s Word seems easy to you to understand? When you read the Bible about the Sabbath and Holy Days, don’t you sometimes wonder why so many people keep pagan days, which aren’t even mentioned in the Bible? It is because God’s Spirit is working with you to understand His truth. It is easier for you because God’s Spirit is helping you.

There are many examples of how God uses His Spirit to fulfill His plan. In Exodus, when Moses was convincing Pharaoh to let the Israelites go free, God used His Spirit to empower Moses to perform miracles in front of Pharaoh.

Also in Acts, during the famous Pentecost baptism of over 3000 multi-national people, God used His Spirit to allow each person to understand the message in their own language. This was an amazing display of interpretation. These are just a couple of the many displays of the awesome power of God’s Spirit.

God’s Spirit is everywhere and all around us. We can first tap into His Spirit by seeking God. This is a genuine desire in our hearts and minds to seek God and His truth. His Spirit will recognize this and begin working with us to understand His Word.

When we reach a level of understanding in which we choose to be baptized, then God’s Spirit will dwell inside of us and we can use it to gain wisdom, protect us, and become closer to God. When we become baptized, we are accepting God the Father and Jesus as our savior. We are effectively “killing” our unconverted body/mind and replacing it with a new Spirit-filled body/mind.

The Spirit inside of us will give us more understanding, and strengthen our faith, if we use it. Satan also targets us as we become closer to God. Jesus tells us to be careful because the fruit must continue to grow or risk dying on the vine.

Stay Connected

We can keep the Spirit alive and strong inside of us by continuing to focus on God and His way. Studying the Bible, fellowship with other Christians, praying, and teaching others are all some of the many ways in which we can grow stronger in Spirit.

The Spirit is like a muscle, it needs to be exercised in order to stay well. The more you exercise it, the stronger it becomes; however, if you don’t take care of it, the muscle will become weak and won’t last long. “Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation; the Spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak” (Matthew 26:41).

Each of us is different in our level of strength and wisdom, based on our talents and desire to grow. God’s Spirit is more powerful and vast than we can even imagine in our mortal minds. God has a plan for us and will use His Spirit to help us achieve greatness. Do not limit yourself or become comfortable with your level of understanding, as God’s Spirit is endless and will take us anywhere we want to go in our walk with God.

Satan is also clever and will use his power to try to tear us down; separate us from God, and quench the Spirit. We can overcome Satan’s attacks by staying close to God and continuing to exercise this Spirit inside of us. As you go through life and take your Christian journey, you will definitely encounter Satan and his empire.
