Valuable by Brandy Webb
You are valuable. Do not ever doubt it. I think that sometimes we need to remind ourselves of that. We are important to God. We are loved by the Creator of the universe, and we are so valuable to Him that “He gave His one and only Son that everyone who believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life” (John 3:16). We are so valuable to Him that He wishes to spend eternity with us.
I know that it is easy to forget our value especially if you find yourself falling into the trap of comparison. It is easy to fall into the trap of looking at someone else, and thinking that they are more important than you because maybe they have a job that you find more prestigious or important. Or maybe they seem to have a larger bank account. Or they may seem to be more talented. Or whatever other reason that they seem to appear more valuable than you.
Yet, if you will notice, I used the term “seem.” That is the problem with the comparison trap; other people seem to be more valuable than you. However, that is not true. All of us are valuable. We are all precious in God’s eyes. We all have value. We are all created for a purpose, to love God and mankind, to live and enjoy the fruits of our labor, to walk humbly with God, to rejoice daily, to pray without ceasing, and to enjoy who God created each of us individually to be (Mark 12:30-31; Ecclesiastes 5:18-20; Micah 6:8; Philippians 4:4; 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18).
The problem is that this isn’t how the world works. The world looks at the outside of a person to evaluate them, but God looks at the heart (1 Samuel 16:7). It is not the physical things like job status, relationship status, financial status, etc., that make someone valuable. It is what is on the inside of you. We are the temple of God, which means we have His Spirit inside us (1 Corinthians 3:16). How much more valuable can you get? Not only did God create us in His image and placed us above all other created earthly things, but He also is willing to place His Spirit within us.
The truth is, God our Father and Jesus Christ our Messiah love us. When they look at each of us, they see someone worth far more than any jewel (Proverbs 31:10). There is nothing that can separate us from their love, and it is this love that makes us so valuable (Romans 8:38).
